Bringing advanced technology to young learners; General Education Department Distributes 29000 Robotic Kits
The Department of General Education is introducing advanced technologies such as AI, robotics, and IoT to students across Kerala by deploying 29,000 robotic kits. This initiative is led by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE).
In 2022, KITE distributed 9,000 robotic kits, and this year, an additional 20,000 kits have been provided to government-aided high schools with support from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs of leading companies. As part of this initiative, Indian Oil Corporation contributed 8,475 kits, Cochin Shipyard provided 4,615, while QBurst Technologies at Technopark and Canara Bank each donated 1,000 kits.
The open-hardware robotic kits include components such as Arduino UNO R3, LEDs, mini servo motors, LDRs, light and IR sensor modules, breadboards, buzzer modules, push-button switches, and resistors. Each kit costs less than ₹1,000, and schools will have the option to purchase replacement components individually after the warranty period.
This initiative will enable students to build prototypes of real-world electronic devices, including traffic signals, automatic street lights, electronic voting machines (EVMs), and smart walking sticks for the visually impaired. Engaging in such programming activities will enhance students’ logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and analytical skills.
