IDSFFK: 8 ENRICHING MALAYALAM DOCUMENTARIES TO RUN IN THE NON-COMPETITION GROUP

Malayalam documentaries including Sukanya G’s Keni: Preserving Indigenous Food Culture, Sreenath K’s Drumming into Silence and Ashin Jose’s Some Unplanned Conversations with Two13-year Old Boys will have their maiden shows on international screens at the fest. Eight of them including six short documentaries and two long documentaries will be screened in the non-competition category. Taking a different turn on depicting cultural and artistic artefacts in Sreenath K’s Drumming into Silence, the documentary explores the arena of medical humanities in filmmaking.

The conversations of teenage boys and their perceptions of the happenings around the world are brought alive in Ashin Jose’s Some Unplanned Conversations with Two13-Year Old Boys. A reminiscence of indigenous faith and healing from abstract mysticism takes place in Don Palathara’s Guruti while Sukanya G’s Keni: Preserving Indigenous Food Culture takes us through the unfamiliar connections between life and interesting food habits of the Mullukuruman tribes in Kerala. J J Abraham’s Third Station: The Flood takes a twist in capturing the fluctuating realities of memory and loss across the background of the three-time floods that struck Kerala.

Ramachandran K’s The Red which documents the life and artistic excellence of Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboodiri on the Kathakali stage and Manilal Padavoor’s The Metallic Twang which journeys through the life and works of sculptor Selvaraj are the biographical documentaries in the category.
